Off to Chincoteague
Well the day is finally here! We’re headed off to Chincoteague Island for the 2011 Pony Penning Swim!
The weeks leading up to our adventure were busy! Minnow kept himself occupied by painting and practicing his new performance to display at the Pony Centre this week.
We’re very much looking forward to showcasing everything we’ve been working and training hard for this week. We know not everyone can make it down for Pony Penning – in fact we had to leave our beloved Ammo the Dachshund at home (something tells me he’ll be sure to keep himself occupied without us though). But don’t worry, if you want to keep up with all the action & goings-on, be sure to head over to our facebook page – where we will try out best to keep you updated on everything we’re up to!
And when we return we’ll have lots of pictures and videos to share with you on the blog!
All Business
Minnow has been all business lately as we continue practicing everyday for our upcoming performances during Pony Penning week in Chincoteague.
It should be noted that I didn’t play with dolls growing up, instead I had guinea pigs, which I liked to dress up in doll clothes. That should help explain a lot. 🙂
It’s a Super Life
Super Minnow has been performing his super duties around the farm lately. And as you can see, he plays the part VERY well! He’s been working on a super special new performance for pony penning this year, so you’ll just have to come visit us down in Chincoteague at the Chincoteague Pony Centre to see what it is!
Story Teller’s Birthday Party
I met Story when she was just a few weeks old at the 2010 Chincoteague Pony Auction in Virginia. Little did I know then, but she had been bought by someone in my hometown – and in the fall she would be on her way to live in Pennsylvania.
On July 10th I attended Story’s First Birthday Party. You can’t tell my boys, because they would be highly jealous!
All of Story’s friends came to her party.
Story even had a special Birthday cake just for her.
Of course she shared her treats with her friends.
This is Sam Brown, Story’s trainer. He is also the same trainer that my mom has been using to work with Blitz.
It was such a great party for a lucky lucky girl. Wishing you many more Happy Birthdays!
Swimming Chincoteague Ponies
On Sunday after the boy’s first Gymkhana Event we stopped at Marsh Creek State Park. The objective, take the ponies swimming (and have a father’s day picnic)!
My sister’s mare, Jet (the black horse), has been swimming several times – as has Minnow. So this time it was Blitz & Boomer’s turn to test out the water.
Both were a little skeptical at first, but on a nice hot day, it didn’t take them long to get in the water.
But after a few minutes and a little gentle coaxing, Boomer was swimming!
Even my parent’s dog, Trooper, joined in on the swimming fun.
The ponies were even introduced to their first kayaks. No one freaked out – even when it drifted awfully close to them. You have to love the mindset of a Chincoteague Pony.
Blitz never did actually swim, but he’s a bit more cautious than Boomer is. And my mom wanted to make it a pleasant experience for him so she opted not ask too much of him.
Little Ammo the Dachshund had to watch from the sidelines. But he is just too little to swim with the big boys. Sorry fella.
